Why Improv Works for Teams
Improv isn't about being funny. It's about listening properly, responding in the moment, and building on other people's ideas instead of blocking them. These are exactly the skills that make teams work well together.
The skills that matter most
Improv is soft skills training disguised as play. Every exercise practises the capabilities that L&D teams are trying to build: communication, adaptability, creative problem-solving, and emotional intelligence.
Our workshops create psychological safety — the conditions where people feel comfortable taking creative risks, making mistakes, and speaking up. Research shows this is the foundation of high-performing teams.
Through games and exercises that feel like play rather than training, people loosen up, connect with colleagues they might not normally work with, and leave with practical tools they can use immediately.
What teams get from improv training:
- ✓ Communication skills — active listening, clear expression, reading non-verbal cues
- ✓ Adaptability & resilience — responding confidently when things don't go to plan
- ✓ Creative problem-solving — building on ideas rather than blocking them
- ✓ Presentation confidence — being comfortable with attention on you
- ✓ Emotional intelligence — reading the room and responding to others' energy
- ✓ Team cohesion — genuine connection, not just working alongside each other
What Our Clients Say
"Chris brought an amazing energy from the moment he arrived, setting a tone that made everyone feel welcome and at ease. The sessions were fast-paced, inclusive and full of laughter. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with many colleagues saying they left feeling more confident and more connected to those around them. We'd 100% recommend Dogface Improv to any organisation looking to build confidence, collaboration, and a fresh sense of creativity into their workplace culture."
From participants:
"Once you start pretending to be someone else and doing something a bit silly, the serious stuff (like speaking confidently) starts to feel a lot more natural. It's a safe space to mess up and learn."
— Kelly, Flagship Housing
"The sessions couldn't have been more uplifting and liberating for our group; I watched folks grinning from ear to ear, belly laughing and more importantly connecting and working together, it was fantastic."
"I invited Dogface to deliver an improv session at an NHS Staff away day – an important opportunity for people working under immense pressure to let go, relax and be silly. It was a fabulous couple of hours of escapism for everyone involved."

10 Years of Dogface Improv
We started Dogface Improv in Norwich in 2014 and over the past 10 years have built a thriving improv scene. We've delivered hundreds of workshops, trained thousands of people, and run countless shows.
We bring that experience to corporate training: we know how to read a room, adapt to energy levels, and make people feel safe enough to take creative risks. We've worked with NHS trusts, housing associations, and organisations across the UK.
Every session is led by experienced improv coaches who know how to facilitate groups and get the best out of people.
